Briton Richard Bloomfield's tennis match with Christophe Rochus in £1m betting probe

Rochus is ranked 160 and has been as high as world No 38, but the odds were around evens - unsurprisingly, as Bloomfield had come through qualifying and plays well on grass, while his opponent was not known for that.

Yet in the hours leading up to the match, Bloomfield was backed down to 1-4, raising the question of whether punters knew Rochus was going to lose. His odds reached 1-8 after a set.
Investigators will seek to find out why so much money was bet on an fairly obscure match in a low level tournament. Comparable matches attracted around 15-20 times less money through online exchange Betfair.

Last year there were at least a dozen suspicious matches although this season there looks to have been a fall in questionable activity. A watch-list of certain players exists and tennis can no longer be accused of wishing the problem would go away.

The culprits usually fit a pattern, of being towards the back end of their careers and ranked between around 70 and 120.
